About the area
Same as many years ago, Westminster remains the political centre of Great Britain. It is situated on the bank of the Thames in the centre of the West End. It is the place where the most important things in the life of the whole country are discussed and resolved. The majority of tourists comes to Westminster to see the most famous London attractions: the Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Cathedral, and Buckingham Palace as well as the famous royal parks. Initially, this place was not the centre of London and not even a part of it. London of those times was formed only by the City, and Westminster was a large abbey, which later gave the name to the whole area. Nowadays, it is a respectable and rich area of the British capital where mainly well-off individuals live.
Westminster offers many options for both paid and free activities. No matter whether you want to spend your leisure with a family, friends, or on a date, here it is possible to find something interesting for any occasion. Moreover, the area is covered with numerous and beautiful parks. Walking through the parks is one of the best ways to spend your time with a family on a sunny day in Westminster. In particular, the most popular parks are Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. In addition, there are numerous playgrounds for children and comfortable benches to relax on.
Among the many squares in Westminster, Trafalgar Square is probably the most popular. Not only it is beautiful by itself with a splendid Nelson’s Column but here you can also enjoy the treasures of the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery.
