About the area
Blackheath is Lewisham's major centre. Once, it was a fashionable suburb for the wealthy city merchants between the XVII and XIX centuries. This wealth is still reflected in its attractive architecture and large houses. Blackheath has fine restaurants, cosy pubs, stylish shops, and an appealing village-like atmosphere. There is also Greenwich Park, a popular location for kite flyers on Sundays. The Horniman Museum, located in Forest Hill, contains a Living Waters aquarium, 16-acre garden and a new eco-building, the Centre for Understanding the Environment. Other places of interest within the borough include the Albany fringe theatre, located in Deptford.
The borough of Lewisham has some amazing designer shops and art galleries. It also offers a wide choice of pubs, trendy bars and restaurants. As it is very close to the centre of the British capital, here you can attend numerous music concerts, theatrical performances, comedy acts, etc.
Lewisham has plenty of green areas - it is a great place for a relaxing walk with friends or family.
